Paper Butter

Tucked away behind the frenetic cluster of fruit stalls, pop-up clothes stores, motorcycle taxis, and Tuk Tuks, there lies a small square that until now held nothing more than trees surrounded by coffee shops and restaurants that circle round the edge of the square. But artisan burger vans have started multiplying across the city, and just two months ago Paper Butter popped up inside this little square.

Paper Butter began life as a made-to-order, customised cake shop, popular on instagram, and originally this mock up cart with its fold down serving area was intended simply as a space to to showcase some example cakes. Fast forward to the start of the year and the owner Patrick and his girlfriend, Ice, transformed their little space into an afternoon and evening eatery.

Paper Butter opens at 2pm and has seating for about a dozen people, tables and chairs scattered around the square as well as communal seating wrapped around the trees. It's open air but covered above and there's a cool breeze coming through, usually from 4pm onwards business starts to pick up and keeps going till closing at 10pm.

There are four types of burger on offer:
The Paper Butter And The Burger, The Aloha Hawaiian, The Chiangmai Spicy, and The Very Cheese Burger.

Starting at 120 Baht for local pork and up to 280 baht for the Japanese Wagyu beef, the bread is locally sourced from an independent French bakery.

The Soi is popular with young artists and staff from nearby offices, as well as a growing number of expats, and this same crowd fills out the common area as the evening goes on.

Take exit 3 at Ari BTS, at the bottom of the stairs turn back and follow the street down to Soi Ari, turn left and there is an elevated pathway that cuts between a dental surgery and a barbers, the path leads into the square and Paper Butter is right there.
